Technology

At Our Lady of Mt Carmel, we believe technology has the greatest impact when it is used purposefully to enhance excellent teaching and deepen student learning. Digital technologies are thoughtfully integrated across the curriculum to provide students with opportunities to investigate, create, collaborate, communicate and solve problems, while developing the skills and dispositions they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Our approach is grounded in high-quality teaching, digital citizenship and student wellbeing. Students learn not only how to use technology, but how to use it safely, responsibly, critically and creatively. This aligns with contemporary Australian educational guidance, which places increasing importance on digital capability and the responsible and ethical engagement with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Students in Years 4 to 6 participate in our 1:1 iPad program, while students in Years 2 and 3 have access to class sets of iPads. Prep and Year 1 classrooms each have a bank of 15 iPads, allowing teachers to intentionally select when digital tools will enhance individual, small-group or whole-class learning.

Importantly, technology does not replace great teaching, relationships, rich discussion, hands-on experiences or explicit instruction. Instead, it is one of many tools our teachers use to enrich learning, provide access to new possibilities and develop confident, capable and responsible learners.
